We’ve been quiet, too quiet. There are many reasons for the silence, mainly life. Life just happened and kept us super busy. As you might know, Long Drop was released in Dec 2022 and we’ve since been working on various things. Long Drop was our first official title that went to market and got us super hyped up to make more things, but we had to find the time. Slakkedis Studio is a part-time thing and as a full-time software engineer. I only have time in the evenings and weekends to conjure up new things.
I’ll give a bit more context in another post, but for now, just know that I’ve collaborated with 2 others to kickstart this game dev journey and make amazing things with some special people.
8 months ago, we started working on Ranger Quest, a mobile roguelite defense game. I know, I know, you’re thinking not another roguelite and yes I know there are many others, but I feel like this one is something special. It’s special cause it’s the beginning of something bigger, it was a test to see what we’re capable of.
My amazing wife, Marin Erasmus has been crafting away at UI and all of the game art. My brother-in-law, Cobus Greyling is a phenomenal game and sound designer with talents we never knew of, and me, well I’ve been developing like a madman. And so this is the beginning of a new journey, we’re not fully sure yet where it will take us but we’re incredibly excited for what’s to come.
Inspired by old-school Game Design principles, Ranger Quest can be played to completion without ever being forced to watch an ad and contains no in-app purchases.
The addictive convergence of Role-Playing and Idle Defense Games, Ranger Quest is a Roguelite Game unlike any you’ve played before!
Gain Influence to unlock mighty Heroes with diverse Skills and Passive Traits, Level them up to 100 and Craft powerful Items in the Forge!
Defeat Bosses and Unlock New Worlds coming soon!
It started as an experiment, which we planned to release in 3-4 months, haha. It ended up taking double the time to get things stable and test-ready. 2 months into development, just like many others, we too fell victim to the Unity bomb drop. With their new model, our game would never see the light of day so, we decided to start the long journey by porting it to Godot. Man am I glad we did, I’m 100% in love with Godot and our workflows are just 10 times quicker. Of course, it came with its challenges and caveats and took us a few weeks but we couldn’t be happier.
We are currently hard at work balancing the game and preparing for an iOS release as well. We’re certain there will be some more polishing and fixing required but it’s come a very long way and is almost ready to see the light of day.
It’s coming next month, specifically at the end of May for the Google Play Store. iOS is also underway but will come slightly later this year.
Well, I’m glad you asked, we’ve got the Goblin Glades, which is the first world with 4 unique heroes. Right after launch, we’re continuing work on the Dark Forest which will also be released sometime this year.
If you can’t stand the wait, give Long Drop a go, we’re sure you’ll enjoy it :)
